Santo Domingo Church and the Museum Of Religious Art

A beautiful monastery was completed by the order of Santo Domingo members in the year of 1687. Unfortunately, a fire took everyone by surprise and destroyed most of the building on February 2 of 1737, The Dominican monks managed to obtain the money they needed to rebuild. Incredibly, a new fire ravaged the building on March 21 of 1756. The monks rebuilt the chapel once again. Today, the monastery houses the Religious Art Museum.

The Chapel Measures approximately seventeen meters wide by forty meters and thirteen meters high. It is magnificently decorated with baroque ornaments.

In 1925, the Panamanian Government wisely decided to legally protect and preserve the monastery and the chapel. Thus they issued Decree 7, which was later converted into Law 68, which ordered legal protection of the ruins as a national and historical monument.
